Another 80 Miles
Riding for Rita

 16 May 2019

Up and ready by 8.15 am for another 80 miler! We were warned in advanced about the tough hill after breakfast, which certainly focused the mind.

Memories of my university days as we crossed the Mendips towards Bristol. A scenic morning coffee break at Ashton Court, with the red deer watching on and enjoying the lush grass. We then crossed Clifton suspension bridge and made our way over The Downs towards the Severn bridge, which wobbled with the wind and the juggernauts that passed us.

Once in Wales, we passed through Monmouth and then towards Tintern, where a road closure added a scenic, but hilly diversion! We admired the abbey ruins and enjoyed a hearty lunch, especially the Welsh cakes, before the final leg of the day. Next we passed through the Wye valley, watching fly fishing on the rivers before finishing up in Hereford. The final challenge was taking our bikes upstairs to our rooms, which meant holding them vertically in the rather small lift and negotiating the hotel corridors!
