Fire-trap dogs now back in the pink

Two dogs resuced from a house fire have been nursed back to health - and their proper colour.

Ruth Porter feared family pets Buddy and Daisy were dead when she found the two barely breathing.

Both were black with soot after the blaze in the conservatory.

She said: "We found our two beautiful dogs motionless on the floor. I thought they were dead."

Husband Robert discovered Buddy, a five-year-old bichon frise, was breathing very softly but Daisy, a six-year-old bearded collie and wolfhoud cross, was not.

Vet Sophi Dolbear of Seadown Services in the New Forest, Hampshire, said: "The poor dogs arrived in a very sorry state and were completely black. Daisy was unresponsive when she was carried in, Buddy was slightly more alert. The whole team quickly set to work providing oxygen via masks. We then worked to wash the soot off them."

Ruth, who has two daughters, Chloe, nine, and Faith, four, said: "Buddy seems to be almost back to his old self, but Daisy still needs time."
