A cat owner has warned fellow pet lovers to be aware of the dangers of sun damage for felines, writes Jaymi McCann.
Karen Evans took her four-year-old rescue cat to the vets when she spotted a cyst on her ear last December.
Due to Bobble's light fur and patchy ears, vet Katie Wood at Seadown Vets in Hampshire, believed it was best to amputate them to avoid any cancer spreading. She said "When Bobble came in, I was concerned due to her history of sun damage."
"Sunburn, especially in cats with ligher skin and fur colours, or less fur, can lead to skin cancer over time. Thankfully, the surgery was successful in removing all of the cancer, and she has made a full recovery. She's now doing wonderfully."
The New Forest vet advised owners to be vigilant and said: "Try to remember to use sun protection creams, particularly on pets that have pink, sensitive skin with little hair covering. But never be afraid to ask your vet for advice."
